Some people would choose a classic movie or a bestselling novel. My answer is easy: MasterChef Australia.
I’ve been a loyal viewer for years, and if I could erase my memories of one show just to experience it all over again, this would be it.

What makes it special isn’t just the food. It’s the people, the stories, and the feeling it creates. Over the years, I’ve watched so many memorable home cooks grow into incredible chefs. Contestants like Callum, with his genius creativity and innovative techniques, Georgia with her comforting, homely dishes, and dessert specialists like Reynold who seemed to have mastered their craft from day one have stayed with me long after their seasons ended. There was even a contestant who earned two immunity pins a moment that’s still etched in my memory…
Choosing a single favourite episode feels impossible, but any challenge featuring taste test would be high on my list. Human ability to imagine how it would be is interesting to watch.
The Mystery Box challenge remains my favourite. In fact, I’d happily cook that way every day. Finding creative ways to use what’s in front of you feels much easier and far more exciting than answering the daily question: “What should we cook tomorrow?”
Watching MasterChef Australia has become a family ritual in our home. There’s something incredibly cozy about gathering together, discussing dishes, predicting outcomes, and sharing our reactions. Those moments have become as meaningful as the show itself.
Unlike many reality shows, MasterChef Australia doesn’t rely on exaggerated drama. The emotions feel authentic, the competition is respectful, and the focus stays where it belongs on passion, learning, and growth.
The show has also inspired me to step outside my culinary comfort zone. I’ve discovered ingredients and dishes I had never heard of before. I haven’t recreated many recipes yet, but I keep telling myself: someday, when life slows down a little, I will.
Until then, I’ll keep watching, learning, and wondering what I would cook if I opened my own Mystery Box.
And if I ever got the chance to experience one show again for the very first time, until then, I’d choose MasterChef Australia without hesitation.
