Introduction:
If you are aware of the place or destination and wish to find directions, make use of GPS. If you don’t have enough time to go to a bank and make a payment, use a bank app equipped with fingerprint and Facial security features. Make use of Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri and get answers to your questions, play songs, listen to stories, watch movies or even switch on or off the light in the room you are sitting in. You must be wondering how is it possible? In simple language, it is just an intelligent machine. Thousands of years ago, ‘human’ was considered to be the most intelligent animal because ‘he could think’. He used to understand, deduce, perceive, or even manipulate. Soon after World war II, the term ‘artificial intelligence’ came into existence and today it is the most important branch of study. These days, we are unknowingly making use of artificial intelligence or AI for lots of activities.
Let us compare and understand the difference between human intelligence and AI.
Definition
Human Intelligence: It is an ability of a human being to think; learn from various experiences, try to understand and solve problems, make decisions, and communicate with other humans. This ‘thinking’ is accompanied by emotions such as self-protection, passion, enthusiasm, and motivation. This enables a human being to make complex cognitive decisions.
Artificial Intelligence: The term popularly known as AI, are the machines that can perform activities that are generally performed by human intelligence like understanding any language, planning, recognizing, learning, solving complex problems, and making decisions.
Comparison between human intelligence & AI
Nature: Human intelligence learns from experiences and carries out different cognitive tasks whereas AI creates machines working with the human thinking processes and their rational behavior.
Function: Human brain works with memories, experiences, thoughts, and the ability to analyze situations. AI-based machines work according to the database and instructions fed to the system.
Learning power: Human life is all about learning and unlearning, trial and error. Human intelligence faces different situations and incidents. They learn from their experience, acquire information, and process it into knowledge. AI can not ‘think’. Machines need huge amounts of data and continuous training to perform any cognitive activity.
Speed: AI-based machines can solve problems in less than a second. At the same time, human intelligence needs fairly more time to understand the problem and solve it. E.g a Machine doctor can solve numerous cases in seconds while a doctor takes at least a few minutes to make a diagnosis.
Bias: Human intelligence can have biases about choices and even decisions. AI-based machines don’t have bias.
Accuracy: AI’s rate of accuracy is much greater than humans.
Operational Ability: Human brain needs rest whereas AI-based machines can work relentlessly. Artificial Intelligence works better on monotonous activities.
Drawbacks of AI that is being without “human”
AI-based machines have to rely on the data and information, there is no room for a cause-and-effect relationship. The human brain can combine experiences, capacity for reasoning, and logic to understand a certain situation.
The future of AI
Nowadays AI is developing more and more. Human intelligence is working hard to train AI systems. AI-based self-driving cars, vacuum cleaner robots, natural language, or image processing are carried out using human intelligence. ‘Can machines think?’ will remain the most intriguing question. Researchers are still searching for humans’ unique thinking processes. So the future of AI will be in the hands of human intelligence.
