What motivates you?

Learning something new everyday is a motivation. So it keeps changing… Currently as I already shared am reading Bhagvat geeta 12th Adhyay,

Here are a few shlokas and a bit of learning from them.

Lord Krishna is answering Arjuna’s question about who is the real Yogi? He says,

Those men keep their senses well under control, have steady concentration, and meditate with a constant feeling of oneness are the real human beings. They are beyond mind and intellect. Such yogis are devoted to the welfare of all beings and maintain equal vision everywhere. They reach Me.

For those men whose minds are absorbed in the formless existence of god, the path of practice is indeed difficult. For those who still identify with the body, realization of god is even more hardship.

But those devoted devotees who dedicate all their actions to Me and, with unwavering devotion, constantly worship and meditate upon Me, they truly worship Me.

Hey Arjuna, those loving devotees who have fixed their minds on Me, I swiftly bless them.

Fix your mind on Me alone. Establish your intellect in Me alone. Then you shall surely dwell in Me, with no doubt.

But if you are unable to steadily fix your mind on Me, O Arjuna, then seek to attain Me through the practice of constant discipline, studies.

If you are still unable even to practice in this way, then simply dedicate your actions to Me. By performing your duties for My sake, you too shall attain perfection and reach Me.

If you are unable even to follow this path of yoga that leads directly to Me, then, mastering your mind and intellect, renounce the fruits of all your actions.

Practice leads to knowledge. Meditation even than knowledge. But renunciation of the fruits of all actions gives you supreme peace.

In these verses, Krishna gently gives Arjuna a ladder of options from the highest (fixing mind fully on Him) down to what is more practical (renouncing the fruits of action.
