We are in the world where everyone’s either an influencer or a motivational guru. Many people are travellers with a million followers. And most importantly everyone out there is either immense happy, either too jealous or absolutely ready to flaunt their success ONLY. So, what really matters is to stand out in this crowd and it is upto Us.
Social media refers to digital platforms where we create, share, and engage with content and people around the world.
I am trying to jot down a few pros and cons as per my understanding of social media…for any and everybody…
Pros of Using Social Media:
1. Variety of Platforms: There are many platforms like Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and Threads. Each offers different formats—text, video, audio, or photos—to suit every type of user.
2. Connect & Advertise Skills: Social media helps individuals showcase their talents, promote their work, and build professional networks. It’s an effective and free way to reach a global audience.
3. Helpful When Used Wisely: When used purposefully, it becomes a valuable tool for learning. It provides inspiration and supports marketing efforts. It even offers earning opportunities.
4. Becomes a Digital Portfolio: For writers, designers, artists, and freelancers, social media acts as an online resume. It serves as a portfolio showcasing work in real time. It attracts potential clients or publishers.
5. Boosts Visibility in Competitive Fields:Writers, especially, benefit from sharing content, joining online writing communities, and participating in contests. It gives them a platform to be noticed.-
Cons of Using Social Media:
1. False Impressions & Fake Validation: Chasing likes and followers can lead to stress and a distorted self-image. It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing yourself with others.
2. Can Waste Time & Affect Peace: Without a clear purpose, social media becomes a distraction. It drains time, energy, money, and even mental peace.
Social media is only a powerful tool, blessing when used with intention, but a burden if used aimlessly. Don’t let it drive you; and definitely, don’t end up as its prey.
So, be wise and take the wheel and steer your social media journey.
