As soon as any long vacation starts, parents are under pressure… Now what? How not to scold children for continuously playing video games, watching uninterrupted supply of non sensical reels or shorts? How to keep calm about talking about their own childhood and demeaning the current generation’s ways of passing time? How to keep them busy in doing things what we parents want them to do? So on and so forth.
But sometimes GenZ teaches us what they are and we have to bow to their way of using their knowledge which may be is not important according to us, the parents And of course the skill to utilise their time creatively.. without AI 😉
Yesterday, my kids and our neighbour’s kids came up with an interesting idea. All of them are mad about Cricket as every Indian child is. Nowadays, they are immersed in upcoming IPL season. Yes, there are 3 more months…but here they are already waiting for it to get started.
So, the idea was BPL, Bunglow Premier League. There was auction, schedule, 3 teams of 4 players each (actual number of players were 3, Fictional players … obviously from Indian international cricket team were 9). Then there were 3 matches, two played by each team, one Final match. They copied actions of our cricketers including Bumrah, Kuldeep, Jadeja, and Siraj. There was Commentry, fours, sixes, 2Ds, 1D as per space constraints, a so called cork ball (rubber with season seam), wooden and plastic bats and few mishaps like broken garden lights. Umpiring, score, calculation, tea break, winners and losers, screaming, trophy and medals…

And Surprisingly all electronic gadgets had a fine rest for five long hours and kids Day 1 of the Christmas vacation spent well.
