Do you have a favorite place you have visited? Where is it?

We often associate Jaipur and Udaipur with elite weddings, stunning palaces, lush green surroundings, and a rich blend of Indian culture that showcases grandeur and ethnicity. But is Udaipur only about palaces, grand weddings, and traditional attire? Certainly not! It beautifully represents greenery in the desert state of Rajasthan, Indian ethnicity amidst modern influences, and the incredible vision of Rajput architecture.

When we decided to visit Udaipur, our primary goal was a change of scenery and to take our 4-year-old to a place where we could find familiar and kid-friendly food like dal-rice. We started our journey from Pune with a layover in Delhi, reaching Udaipur after a total of 12 hours, including waiting time. From the moment we arrived, the experience felt special. Our kids were thrilled to see our driver dressed in traditional Rajasthani attire. The airport is located away from the city, in a plateau region, but as we entered the city, the landscape transformed with the stunning Aravalli mountain ranges and scenic roads winding through the hills.

Known as the “City of Lakes,” Udaipur boasts an impressive lake system, with seven lakes surrounding the city. Our hotel, located near Lake Pichola, offered breathtaking views of the lake and Jag Mandir, a serene island palace.

During our 3-day trip, we visited these four places:

City Palace: Overlooking Lake Pichola, this iconic palace showcases Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, offering museums, courtyards, and spectacular views. It’s a must-visit for its history and beauty.

Lake Pichola: A boat ride here lets you admire the Jag Mandir and Lake Palace, which appears to float on water.Fateh Sagar Lake: Encircled by hills, this lake is perfect for peaceful views and a visit to Nehru Garden or the Udaipur Solar Observatory.

Jagdish Temple: This intricately carved Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is near the City Palace.

On the way, we also stopped for Rajastani food and visited an aquarium, which were the highlights for our little ones.

Udaipur’s charm lies in its royal heritage, tranquil lakes, and vibrant culture, making it an ideal destination for families, history lovers, and nature enthusiasts alike.
